PEOPLE can try their hand at sailing for free at a special open day this weekend.

Ulley Sailing Club is opening to the public tomorrow (10am-4pm) when it will be offering visitors the opportunity to “Discover Sailing” on a free taster sailing session with an instructor or an experienced member.

A club spokeswoman said: “Many don't realise how accessible sailing is, how comparatively low cost it can be and how inclusive and family friendly it is.

“It's great for the mind, body and soul — a way to clear your mind taking in the scenery and enjoying the relative peace and fresh air.

“Racing, on the other hand, can be competitive and invigorating.

“As a sport, hobby or pastime, sailing can mean different things to all.

“Overall it's fun and we consider Ulley to be one big family.

“We have sailors from aged 5 to more than 80 years old.”

Those wishing to “Discover Sailing” should take a change of clothing, a towel and shoes that don't matter. Buoyancy aids will be provided.

There were be food and refreshments.

Anyone who does wish to join the club on the day will have their joining fee waived and priority booking on to one of Ulley's half-day sailing experiences and RYA sailing courses.

Booking isn't required for the open day — just turn up. All ages are welcome.
