RUGBY: A top points scorer and six straight successes as Rotherham Titans end difficult season in style at expense of Sheffield Tigers

ROTHERHAM Titans have ended their season with six straight wins and the league's top points scorer in their ranks.

Saturday's 40-10 victory over Sheffield Tigers at Dore Moor included 15 points from the boot of Lloyd Hayes.

That tally took him to 267 points for the campaign and above Hull Ionians' Lewis Minikin and Esher's Sam Morley to finish as the biggest scorer in National Two North this term.

"It feels good," said Hayes. "The performance from the team helped but the points thing was always in the back of my head. The main plan was to get the job done and then the points came and that was a bonus."

Danny Rylance scored two tries and there was one each for Sam Veall, Theo Nwosu-Hope and Matt Challinor.

Rotherham's late-season rally, after an autumn and winter dip that ended their promotion chances, lifted them to a fourth-placed finish above Otley, who lost to Tynedale.

Titans head coach Gary Pearce said: "Our lads played ridiculously well in tough conditions.

"It would have been nice to start the season with six wins but we've got momentum now and the lads are starting to believe we're a good side.

"Players are staying with us and hopefully the players coming in will add another dimension to us so we'll come back (for pre-season training) in June ready to go."
