ROTHERHAM Titans chief Adam Byron reflected on a good all-round test for the team in Saturday's win over Tynedale.

The hosts raced into a 31-0 lead inside the first 21 minutes propelled by two tries from Callum Bustin, another for fly-half Corben Ollivent and one for debutant Fraser Jones with his first touch.

Tynedale enjoyed large chunks of pressure after that but despite their efforts, strong defence limited them to one second-half try as the contest finished 37-7.

"The first quarter was exactly what we asked for. We went at them and put points on the scoreboard early," said Byron.

"Although we would have liked more play and possession after that, we kept Tynedale out and had a really good defensive stint as well.

"I will hold my hands up and say we were disappointed to lose the second half 7-6 but we still created opportunities and there were four or five times we could have scored."

Rotherham's other points came from the boot of Lloyd Hayes and their lineout problems of recent times were also eradicated after practice in the week led by coach Matt Smith.

"Are there other things we can improve on? I'm sure there are," added Adam. "But if you come away with a five-point win then you are going in a good direction."

The win nudged Titans up to third spot in National Two North.

They now face three matches against teams near the near top, starting away to Wharfedale on Saturday (3pm).
