Ronnie heartened by victory

ROTHERHAM United chief Ronnie Moore hopes Saturday's win over Crewe will stand his side in good stead for another busy month in their League Two promotion campaign.

The Millers bounced back from their midweek defeat at Port Vale to see off Dario Gradi's men 3-1 with goals from Nick Fenton, Ryan Taylor and a 19th of the season from Adam Le Fondre.

With five more games to come in February, including three against teams challenging at the top end, Moore wants his players to take the chance to steal a march on some of their closest rivals.

He said: "This month is a massive one. We've lost to Port Vale, who are going to be there or thereabouts, and we've beaten Crewe, who are going to be there or thereabouts, and we've two big games coming up at Gillingham and Oxford.

"If we play with the endeavour we did on Saturday then we will be OK."

The Millers looked like having to settle for a draw at a wet and windy Don Valley Stadium on Saturday when Fenton's 43rd minute opener was cancelled out by a controversial equaliser from Ajay Leitch-Smith just after the hour mark; the goal looking offside.

But two goals in the last six minutes from Le Fondre and Taylor sealed a deserved win.

Moore added: "It was the right result and a pleasing performance. At one stage it looked like being a bad result for us but we played some good stuff at times and we dug in there."

The win consolidated the Millers in third spot, two points clear of nearest challengers Shrewsbury, ahead of tomorrow's away match at Gillingham.
