Penalty reversal kills off Titans' win hopes

MARK Jones will review the video of the British and Irish Cup defeat against Moseley before making any comment on the controversial late decision which cost Rotherham the chance to sneak a win.

They lost 20-19 but only after referee Ben Blain reversed a last minute penalty under the posts. Titans were awarded the chance to win the game only for the penalty to be reversed after rookie centre Jack Hayes was alleged to have stamped on an opponent.

The Birmingham side promotly cleared their lines and then ran down the clock.

Said a disappointed Jones: “We pride ourselves on having good discipline and our general all-round pitch discipline has been excellent all year. Unfortunately Jack was pulled up and I’m not sure whether it was right or wrong until I see the video but it’s a fact, you have to deal with it and you have to make sure where you’re not in a position where giving a penalty away in the last five minutes can cost you a game.

“We had enough opportunities to win the match before than and make sure it didn’t come down to a penalty at the end. I’d rather come down harder on those things I’f I’m honest."

Rotherham were beaten despite having opened up a 16-0 lead inside half an hour, Moseley hitting back with three tries.

You'll find a full analysis - plus the reaction - in this week's Advertiser, which will be in the shops on Wednesday.
