Patterson pleased with response

CARETAKER manager Darren Patterson got the response he wanted as Rotherham United carded a win against Macclesfield Town last night.

Put in temporary charge after Andy Scott's sacking, he oversaw a 4-2 victory at Don Valley Stadium through goals from Mark Bradley, Ben Pringle, Alex Revell and Kieron Cadogan.

Patterson said: "The players and staff deserve massive praise. It's been a horrendous couple of days. We're a tight knit group and we're devastated to lose Andy, who is a top coach and a top manager. But I have to say we were very professional; first class.

"At the end of the day we are all professionals and we know what happens, but it doesn't make it any easier for us. We focused on winning, which is what we did.

"We created a lot of chances and got in some good areas and there was a lot more end product.

"My only criticism was the goals we conceded but we reacted well and that was pleasing. It's down to us now to get on with it."

The Millers will monitor Alex Revell and Michael Raynes before Saturday's trip to Crawley after both picked up knocks.

Another concern is top scorer Lewis Grabban, who hurt himself in the warm-up. He was an unused substitute.
