Wath Golf Club's Carol Price bowled over by Yorkshire success

GOLFER Carol Price has landed a fine piece of summer silverware.

Wath Golf Club member Carol came out on top in the Yorkshire Challenge Bowl competition at Filey, beating 81 other players to land the first prize.

The top 16 on Day 1 progressed to the matchplay stages, with Carol beating Vicki Braithwaite, of Ilkley, on the 16th green in the final.

Good news for Carol is that she doesn’t have to travel as far next year to defend her title because it is being played at Hickleton.

 

Meanwhile, in the SUGC League, Rotherham suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 5-3 at Sickleholme.

Lucas Martin maintained his unbeaten record this season with a comfortable win and Richard Bee holed a swinging 16 footer on the last to claim a half, those  two providing Rotherham’s points on the day. 

In the top division’s other game involving local clubs, Wath were beaten 6-2 at Abbeydale.

it was not the best of weeks for Sitwell in Division 2 either as they went down 7-1 at Worksop.

Better news for Waterfront, whose promotion hopes were helped by a 5-3 win against Hillsborough.

Phoenix went down 8-0 at Serlby in Division 3.,
