New boy Henderson wins praise

NEW boy Liam Henderson has gone straight into Ronnie Moore's good books for surviving his sink-or-swim debut.

Chucked in at the deep end at Don Valley Stadium on Tuesday night after his speedy one-month loan transfer from Watford, the young striker sweated buckets for the cause and had a hand in both the goals that sunk Accrington.

And given his limited senior experience, Moore was impressed by the 21-year-old's application and strength of character.

He said: "The deal was only done on Tuesday so he didn't know anyone. He just came into the dressing room, put a shirt on and went out and played.

"He worked his socks off and did ever so well to set up Alf's goal.

"Liam is still very raw—he mistimes his jumps—but he put the other team under an awful lot of pressure."

Henderson has had loan spells with Hartlepool, Colchester and Aldershot to add to 21 senior appearances for Watford, all from the substitutes' bench.

The offer from Rotherham caught him on the hop but he has been more than happy to pack his bags and make the trip up the M1.

He said: "I was sat in the dressing room after a reserve game on Monday night and the (Watford) manager took me to one side and said that Rotherham were interested,.

"As soon as I had heard of the interest I was more than happy to join the club. I now just want to get out and show the fans what I can do."
