Nav retains English title

ROTHERHAM fighter Nav Mansouri will face a rematch with South Yorkshire rival Matt Mallin after their English Light Middleweight fight came to a premature end.

Mansouri’s eagerly-awaited first defence was stopped after the first round after Mallin suffered a gash below his right eye following a clash of heads.

The fight ended in a technical draw on the ringside doctor’s advice because the four-round limit had not been reached but the verdict ensured that Mansouri retained his belt.

It was a disappointing finale but Coldwell now wants the two back in the ring as soon as possible.

“There was nothing that could be done because it was a nasty cut just beneath Mallin’s eyelid,” he said.

“There will be a rematch, it just depends on how quickly the injury heals. It was a disappointment because it promised to be a great fight.”
