Nardiello pushes for starting role

MILLERS striker Daniel Nardiello says he wants to keep on scoring – and convince Steve Evans that he’s worth a starting role.

But with the Millers firing well, he knows it won’t be easy.

Nardiello was pitchforked into the action at half-time on Saturday as Evans switched his side around and gave a match-winning performance as rivals Sheffield United were cut to pieces in the 3-1 win.

Now he’s hoping to claim his first start of the campaign.

He said: “In the second half we were just on top of the game, for the whole 45 minutes, and we deserved it in the end.

“In the second half we had a few more attacking options, bringing me on up there, and we had more of a follow-up in dangerous areas.

“The gaffer saw that something wasn’t right. He made the changes and it paid off.

“He did actually say that he’d got it wrong in the first half. You don’t get it right all the time and that’s why he made the changes and we got a fairly comfortable 3-1 win against our local rivals.

“It was brilliant. I just wanted to get on the pitch and get a goal to help us win the game.

“I came on the other week and scored and then did it again on Saturday. I’ve just got to keep on trying to force my way into the starting 11.

“I’ve played a few games so I feel fit. It’s just a question of getting my chance — but the lads have been doing so well really that I can’t complain.

“But if I keep on scoring goals then hopefully I’ll get in sooner or later.”
