More wanted from striker Bowery

STRIKER Jordan Bowery has been told to add a meaner streak to his game.

For all his physical attributes, six-footer Bowery isn't always the handful he should be for defenders.

That was true again on Tuesday night before he popped up with the winner against Cambridge in the Capital One Cup.

Although Steve Evans said he linked well with strike partner Matt Derbyshire, he's still looking for more from a player who once prompted Aston Villa to pay £500,000 to take him from Chesterfield.

Bowery has netted six times in 38 appearances since his £300,000 switch from Villa last summer.

Evans said: “Everyone in the football club loves Jordan and it was good to see him get his goal.

“He didn't win many headers or keep possession for us in the first half. He didn't have enough aggression in his play again and I told him at half time that we needed more of it.

“If he can get that then some weeks he will be unplayable. If it doesn't then some weeks he will flutter around.”
