Mixed fortunes for Town

ROTHERHAM Town suffered a mixed weekend in their quest for the Yorkshire League title.

Reigning champions York proved too strong at Clifton Lane on Saturday, winning by eight wickets despite a fighting 55 from Gareth Purshouse.

Town hit back to beat Yorkshire Academy by five wickets at the Lane yesterday to trim York's advantage at the top to four points.

There were three wickets apiece for Gurman Randhawa and Oliver Jackson as the visitors were bowled out for 228.

Ben Sanderson was unbeaten at the finish on 64 in Town's 229-5.

Rotherham return to action on Sunday with another home game, this time against Barnsley.
