Millers well beaten at Fulham

ROTHERHAM United’s quest for a third straight victory ended in a comprehensive defeat at Fulham.

Despite young centre-half Farrend Rawson cancelling out Cauley Woodrow’s early opener, the hosts capitalised upon defensive lapses to win 4-1 as Woodrow ended the night with a brace.

The result snapped a run of nine matches without a win for Fulham while the Millers end the year just above the Championship safety line.

Watched by new head coach Slavisa Jokanovic , the home side struck an early blow when Woodrow was played through by top scorer Ross McCormack and rounded Lee Camp to score.

There was no let-up in the action and Rotherham powered back with Joe Newell, Lee Frecklington and Danny Ward all demanding saves from Andy Lonergan before they deservedly equalised on 19 minutes.

A corner led to a goalmouth scramble and Rawson smashed in through a crowd of players.

Fulham came back into the game up to half time and twice called Camp into action before regaining the lead when Woodrow fired in his second, with McCormack again providing the assist.

Despite a promising first 45 minutes and carrying plenty of threat, the Millers were found wanting in defence in the second half.

Woodrow turned provider by providing the cross which Alexander Kacaniklic swept in for 3-1 on the hour mark and when McCormack swivelled to fire in his 15th of the season on 69 minutes, the match was all but over as a contest.

Rotherham rallied in the closing stages and Lonergan tipped Joe Mattock’s effort onto the crossbar. They had 22 shots in all but it was Fulham who bagged the points from an entertaining encounter.
