Millers tie with Terriers

ROTHERHAM United must wait at least a few more days to confirm their Championship safety after settling for a point at home to Huddersfield Town.

Needing to better MK Dons’ result at Sheffield Wednesday to make sure, they drew a lively Yorkshire derby 1-1 and with Karl Robinson’s side finishing 0-0 at Hillsborough, the gap remains at nine points with only three games to play.

A strong opening from Rotherham was rewarded with the opener after ten minutes. Joe Mattock swung in a corner and the ball fell for Greg Halford to drill in through a crowd of players.

Grant Ward stung the palms of goalkeeper Jed Steer as David Wagner’s side struggled to get their passing game going but the pattern of the half changed once they equalised from their first serious assault on 22 minutes. Ward was dispossessed and the ball was quickly moved for top scorer Nahki Wells to drive a shot past Lee Camp.

Forced to defend after that, the Millers were the happier team to see half time and saw Wells go close again just before the whistle sounded.

The game evened out again in the second half. Grant Ward flashed a header just wide but Camp had to be at his best to palm out measured efforts from Joe Lolley and the lively Wells.

One of Rotherham’s best players on the night, Richard Wood, nearly capitalised in a goalmouth scramble but they looked tired and were hanging on towards the end, happy to extend their unbeaten run to ten games.
