Millers seek Pope boost

ROTHERHAM United are hoping recalled striker Tom Pope can help re-ignite their promotion push.

With only one win from the last eight and having slipped to tenth spot in League Two, three points off the play-offs, the Millers have little margin for error in the remaining six games.

Caretaker manager Andy Liddell believes Pope could be an asset during the run-in and has cut short his loan spell at Port Vale as result.

Pope, a Valiants fan, has had regular football at Vale Park, scoring three goals in 13 appearances. They currently sit one place above the Millers in the table.

Liddell said: "It is unfortunate for Tom because he is a Vale fan and he was enjoying it there, but he's a Rotherham player.

"He's also a good player and we need all the good players we can get for the run-in.

"Tom is fit, he's back playing regularly and he's raring to go."

The Millers will be forced into at least one change for tomorrow's game at Cheltenham.

Goalkeeper Andy Warrington will miss out having badly gashed his foot in last Saturday's home defeat to Morecambe. He needs another x-ray and it is uncertain when he will return.

Understudy Jamie Annerson will come in.
