Millers ready for battle

STEVE Evans is asking his players to meet the challenge of a difficult month head-on and says: “No-one will be looking forward to playing us.”

February has thrown up a tough run of fixtures against teams gunning for promotion.

After tomorrow's home date with top-four contenders Ipswich, the Millers go to Blackburn on Tuesday and then face Derby, Wolves and Watford before ending the month with a potential bottom-end battle against Millwall.

While it's as challenging a spell as Rotherham have had since their return to the Championship, Evans believes he's now got a squad in place that is up to the job.

Improved recent performances, notably the win over Bolton and last Saturday's draw at Charlton, has underlined his confidence and he says there is nothing to be daunted about.

He told the Advertiser: “I said way back in July that if people want to know what winning at Wembley was about, just look at the games in February – Ipswich, Blackburn, Derby, Wolves and Watford.

“We are in terrific form if you are one those clubs, you are not looking forward to playing Rotherham.

“Ipswich and Blackburn are two former Premier League clubs. Ipswich are flying high under Mick McCarthy and Blackburn have been in great form at Ewood Park but we are confident.”
