Millers push on with recruitment

HAVING snapped up highly-rated midfield man Michael Tidser, Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has set about filling the final space in his squad jigsaw.

No sooner had Tidser (23) signed from Greenock Morton yesterday for a fee understood to be £75,000, than the Millers were pressing on with efforts to land a striker.

And Evans insists any new recruit must meet his strict criteria.

He told the Advertiser: “People think that if you speak to a player for 20 minutes, it means they are coming here, but any additions have to be the right type and the same goes for a striker.

“They must be young, energetic, hungry, creative and offer value for money. If we spoke about every player linked with us we could be here all day and anyone who thinks Matt Tubbs is the only one I'm interested in is delusional.

“There are other strikers we are keen to bring in and it is not for me to speculate. While we go about our business, I prefer to keep my head below the parapet and try to get a deal done.”

Meanwhile, the first team squad will be involved in tomorrow's warm-up match against Parkgate at Roundwood (2pm), although Kari Arnason is not expected to figure.

He only returned to training on Wednesday after extra time off due to international duties.
