Millers Ladies take credit in defeat

ROTHERHAM United Ladies had nothing to show from their local derby against Steel City Wanderers last night despite a battling performance.

Aiming to avenge a 3-1 defeat to their local rivals last month, the Millers went down 2-0 at Roundwood but did enough to warrant a point in the Women's Premier League Midlands One clash.

A win would have pulled Rotherham level on points with Wanderers and they got off to a good start with some excellent attacks by Hollie Barker.

The visitors' defence and goalkeeper did well to keep out a stream of shots, with Natalie Shaw a threat.

Goalkeeper Charlie Whiteley was equal to Steel City's first good chance in the last couple of minutes of the first half but was beaten by Millie Kenton for the opening goal.

By the second half the morale of the Rotherham team had slipped although a talk from their coaches saw them pick up a little and Shannon Ryan was introduced, giving the girls some fresh legs. Whiteley was forced into another good save and Ryan went close at the other end before the visitors made it 2-0 from a corner by Sarah Doyle.

The Ladies sit eighth in the table and now turn their attentions to Sunday's tie away to Guiseley Vixens in the Women's FA Cup.
