Millers close in on third signing

ROTHERHAM United expect to secure a third new signing next week–and are prepared to smash their transfer record to bolster Steve Evans’ squad.

Having already recruited front men Daniel Nardiello from Exeter City and Kayode Odejayi from Colchester United, the Millers underlined their ambitions by lodging “significant” bids this week for Bournemouth striker Matt Tubbs and AFC Wimbledon's Jack Midson. It is understood they have tabled over £250,000 to land Tubbs.

Along with an undisclosed offer for Peterborough United defender Mark Little, all were rejected but with the financial backing of chairman Tony Stewart, the club remains a big player in the transfer market and manager Evans expects to tie up another signing on Tuesday.

He said: “We are in talks with a number of players and subject to a medical then our fans will be very happy on Tuesday afternoon with one of our signings.

“We couldn't get the facility to get the medical done until Tuesday, and my thought process is that until the pre-contract is signed then we won't talk about who they are.

“It is no secret that we feel that certain positions need significantly strengthening and we are looking at all areas of the squad. There is still room in terms of numbers and finances to bring five or six further signings and we are trying to do that.”
