Millers beaten at Oxford

ROTHERHAM United’s play-offs chances suffered a major blow with a 2-1 defeat at Oxford United this afternoon.

The Millers were undone by two goals either side of half time before Lewis Grabban pulled a late goal back.

After a scrappy first period, the opener came in stoppage time when Mark Bradley squandered possession and Peter Leven sent Scott Rendell free down the left to slot the ball past Rhys Taylor.

Asa Hall doubled the advantage seven minutes after the restart, thrashing the ball high into the net after being teed up just inside the penalty area.

The goals lifted the hosts and Taylor prevented further damage with a stunning save from a Rendell header.

With new loan striker Sam Hoskins introduced to the action, the Millers reduced the arrears on 83 minutes when Grabban converted a spot kick awarded for a foul on Jason Taylor.

Oxford were clinging on at the finish, with Michael Duberry clearing off the line from Danny Harrison and substitute Kieron Cadogan.
