Millers aim to close gap

MANAGER Steve Evans is asking Rotherham United to mark a potentially pivotal weekend in League One with a big three points at the New York Stadium.

They prepare to tackle Walsall tomorrow knowing that just a few more wins from their last 11 games will guarantee a place in the play-offs.

The Millers are aiming higher than that and haven't ruled out taking the second automatic promotion spot currently occupied by Leyton Orient.

With them playing Brentford, in third, tomorrow, it's a chance for Rotherham, nine points behind in fifth spot, to make up ground and Evans wants his players to grasp it and carry on where they left off at Oldham on Tuesday night.

“It's a huge weekend in League One,” he told the Advertiser. “Brentford play Leyton Orient in an early kick-off, MK Dons take on Peterborough and Sheffield United to go Preston on Monday.

“By Saturday night, a lot of teams will have a clearer picture where they are going.

“Orient and Brentford both can't win because they play each other. We still have Brentford to play and Orient have still got to play Wolves so the top two is far from settled.

“If you lose two or three matches close together you suddenly have a problem so what we've got to do is carry forward what we delivered on Tuesday because our football was excellent at times."

With striker Wes Thomas and midfield man Rob Milsom both back in full training, the Millers will have a full-strength squad to pick from tomorrow.
