MATCHDAY CENTRE: Too many basic errors, says Stubbs

MANAGER Alan Stubbs made no excuses for last night's EFL Cup defeat to Morecambe, admitting: "We made too many basic errors."

On-loan Liverpool man Jack Dunn notched a hat-trick as the League Two side prevailed  5-4 after extra time at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“If you look at the goals you don't need to be a football coach to identify what's gone wrong,” said Stubbs. “We get ourselves into a winning position and we make another silly mistake.

“It was a strange game and a game that I'm not normally accustomed to and I don't want to become accustomed to and the players need to learn very quickly.

“They are basic errors like not dealing with straight forward balls.

"You have to give Morecambe credit and I don't want to take anything away from them but the manner of our goals was not good enough."

Stubbs said that a couple of new signings could arrive in time for Saturday's Championship test away to Aston Villa.
