MATCHDAY CENTRE: 'Stick with us' says Stubbs

ALAN Stubbs has called upon the fans to help the team out of their predicament near the bottom of the Championship — and insists fortunes can turn.

The Millers chief admits there is pressure on him after only one win from nine league games so far and has been critical of his players after some defeats.

Stubbs was more forgiving after Saturday's improved showing against Cardiff and said more positivity from the stands will help.

"If we had played really poorly I would understand (the frustration) but the fans have to stick behind the players because they can see they're putting the effort in" he said.

"We didn't deserve to lose — I think we all appreciate that — but the fact of the matter is that we lost. The first goal was poorly defended by us and the second sums up the bad luck we are having at the moment."

The defeat punctured Rotherham's unbeaten home record and was only the second in 13 league games at the New York Stadium.

They now face two tough tests against Huddersfield tomorrow and a sold-out date at home to title favourites Newcastle United on Saturday.

"We go again, we've shown we can get results in this division," added Stubbs. "If we keep working hard then it can turn and it will turn but it doesn't just happen. You have to do that little bit extra to make it fall for you and that's what we will be saying to the players all the time."
