Liddell relishing managerial challenge

CARETAKER boss Andy Liddell says he will be a proud man when he steps out at Lincoln City tonight for his first match in charge of the Millers.

After 20 years in the game, 19 of them as a player, the 37-year-old has the chance to make an instant impression in management by taking Rotherham to promotion.

With the season nearly over, it's a steep learning curve for the former Barnsley and Sheffield United striker but he says he's honoured to have been given the opportunity.

"I'll be proud, excited and nervous," he said. " It's an absolutely fantastic opportunity.

"I was surprised to be offered the position—I didn't see it coming—but  I didn't hesitate at all.

"We have nine games to go and we've got good players and we're in a good position so it was a no-brainer.

"My main aim now is to prepare the players, to support them and be as positive as I can with them and let's see where we finish."
