Last men in save a point for Wath

THE two form sides in the Premier League of the Ben Bailey Homes South Yorkshire Senior League clashed at Northfield Lane on Saturday, with the visitors clinging on for a point with the last pair at the wicket.

Despite some fine bowling from Wath’s Paul Wilkinson (4-57), who sent the first four Wickersley OV batsmen back to the pavilion with 52 on the board, the home side went on to amass 208, mainly thanks to skipper Gareth Davis.

Davis knocked up 103, including 14 fours, and was the final wicket to fall after finding good support from veteran Andy Harrison, who hit a speedy 34.

The visitors got off to a good start but when Rob Barlow was out and the spinners came on wickets began to fall.

James Barnard hit a fighting 48 but Wath were always behind the scoring rate. Christy Viljoen from Namibia picked up two late wickets but Wath held on for a point with the final pair at the wicket.

Whitley Hall 72 for 6, Treeton 70

Last year's champions, Whitley Hall moved into second position after a hard fought win over Treeton at Baxter Field.

Treeton lost their first two wickets without scoring against hostile Whitley bowling, especially from Adam Wilson, who took 5 for 30.

The innings recovered before declining from 45 for 4 to 46 for 7, Treeton being all out for 70. South African Jaco Castle polished off the tail with three for 13.

Whitley got off to an even more sensational start, Steve Foster enjoying the conditions to reduce the home side to 7 for 4.

Whitley were reduced to 31 for 6 before Jaco Castle smashed 33 off 26 balls as 41 runs were added for the seveth wicket as Whitley notchded a winning total. Foster finished with 3 for 6 from 8 overs.
