Jeers were unjust, says Ronnie

ROTHERHAM United manager Ronnie Moore says supporters were wrong to boo the team off at Don Valley Stadium on Saturday.

ROTHERHAM United chief Ronnie Moore says supporters were wrong to boo the team off at Don Valley Stadium on Saturday.

Home fans vented their frustration at the final whistle of the 0-0 draw against non-league York City in the first round of the FA Cup, many angry at the manager's failure to use any of his substitutes.

Moore said: "I thought it was a bit unjust and an overreaction to boo us off. You need patience and if things are not going quite right for you then you need the crowd right to get behind you.

"I can understand it because they want you to win by three or four and we haven't done that.

"Probably one or two of the people booing wanted me to put subs on but I thought today wasn't the right time to do it.

"If you put one on and he slips and he's not quite up to the pace of the game and we concede and lose then people will ask why I changed it.

"You can't win as a manager. You do it one week and they moan and you don't do it and they moan again."

The stalemate means Moore's men must negotiate a replay at Bootham Crescent on Wednesday week if they are to progress.

The prize is a trip to another Blue Square Premier Division side, Darlington, in the second round.

The Millers, without a win in four games, are in knockout action again tomorrow night against Huddersfield Town in the third round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Kick-off at Don Valley is 7.45pm.
