It's over, admits Scott

MANAGER Andy Scott accepts that Rotherham United's promotion chances are over after yesterday's defeat to Gillingham.

The 1-0 defeat left the Millers six points shy of the play-offs with only two games remaining. They need to win both and hope others slip up to stand any chance of taking seventh spot.

Scott, who saw his team take just one point from six over Easter, said: "Promotion? It's over. It was a must-win game (yesterday) and we can't keep thinking we've got chances.

"We had several chances but again we let a team off the hook and probably over the season we are where we deserve to be."

After conceding an injury time equaliser to draw at Northampton on Good Friday, the Millers were undone by a deflected effort from Andy Barcham 12 minutes from time against the Gills.

Added Scott: "Friday night was a big game for us and we couldn't close the game out and this time we couldn't keep the momentum going.

"Jamie Annerson had too many saves to make and their front caused our back four a lot more problems than our front two caused theirs and that was the difference."

Scott takes his team to Aldershot on Saturday for the final away game before the season concludes at home to Torquay on Saturday week.
