I'm staying, says Evans

MANAGER Steve Evans has pledged his loyalty to Rotherham United amid speculation he is a target for League One outfit Notts County.

According to sources in Nottinghamshire, the Magpies are considering the Millers chief as a replacement for Keith Curle, who was sacked at the weekend after less than a year in charge.

Evans is third favourite with some bookies to be County's next permanent manager and it is understood they might make an approach either this weekend or early next week.

He is less than a year into a three-year contract at the New York Stadium and only last week underlined his commitment to take the club back to the Championship.

When pressed on the Notts County speculation by the Advertiser, he said: "I have come here to work on a special project to take this club forward and it is one that continues to excite me. It remains my main focus and I don't want any distractions.

"It's about much more than this season and I intend to see the job through."

In the meantime, Evans is concentrating on preparing his team for two challenging away games at Burton Albion tomorrow and Torquay United on Tuesday.

He added: "We have been travelling well this season and we will go into these matches with confidence."
