Hockey men win opener

ROTHERHAM got the start they wanted in their Yorkshire League Division One opener when they won 2-0 at York.

After an even start to the game, Rotherham started gain more possession but it wasn’t converted into goals and they went into the break deadlocked at 0-0.

The Aurora side started the second half well and continued creating chances through Ben Davis and Fraser Henderson.

The game became more physical as both sides pushed to take the lead. A chest-high tackle on Chapman led to a yellow card for York, leaving them with ten men.

Rotherham's persistence won them a short corner which was converted with the aid of a deflection by Davis.

Within ten minutes Davis scored again following a well-worked attack.

Tomorrow, Rotherham face Lincoln at home (12.45pm).
