Hat-trick man downs Millers

ROTHERHAM United were undone by a second-half hat-trick at Bolton Wanderers.

Despite leading 1-0 at half time with and then pulling back to level at 2-2 late on thanks to substitute Jordan Bowery’s second goal in as many games, Joe Mason’s treble saw Wanderers win 3-2 to collect their first Championship victory of the season.

Anthony Wordsworth tucked a free-kick into the bottom corner of the net from just outside the D to open the scoring and notch his first goal since his loan move from Ipswich.

Rotherham cursed their luck when the lively Paul Taylor rattled the post early in the second period and the hosts took advantage of the let-off when Mason made it 1-1 on 59 minutes, paving the way for a lively last half-hour.

The loan striker's header put Bolton in front ten minutes from time but when Bowery spun in the box to equalise moments later, the Millers had one hand on a point. However the celebrations had barely died down when Mason found the roof of the net to settle it.

Both sides went close in a frantic finale, with the man of the match missing two super chances to add to his tally.
