Great opportunity, says Evans

MANAGER Steve Evans says that a victory against Shrewsbury Town this weekend would complete an amazing 16 months for Rotherham United.

When the former Crawley chief took the job last spring, the club was still playing its home games at Don Valley Stadium and was tenth in League Two.

Fortunes both on and off the field have improved significantly since then, with a £20 million new home at the New York Stadium staging a promotion and an encouraging start to the new campaign.

Evans told the Advertiser: "So far we've drawn with Crewe, beaten Sheffield Wednesday, taken a good point against Preston — even though I was disappointed not to win — and produced an emphatic performance at Crawley last week. The scoreline didn't do us justice.

"If we win tomorrow, it could put us in the top three in League One. With a big cup tie against Aston Villa to come next Wednesday, that would represent massive progress at this football club over the last 15 or so months.

"That's why this weekend is a fantastic opportunity for us. Come the end of it we can show that Rotherham United is in A1 shape."
