Goodison delighted at Olympics call

GOLDEN boy Paul Goodison will defend his Olympic title next year after being named as one of the first members of the British squad.

And he says: “It felt great to be told I’d been selected.”

Thirty-year-old Goodison won the gold medal in China three years ago and since then has dominated the laser class. It would have been a major shock had he not been one of the 11 sailors selected on Tuesday, but the former Brinsworth Comprehensive pupil was still relieved when the news came.

He said: “It has been a difficult few days to try and keep it secret but I can finally say I’m qualified and will be on the start line next year. "
