ROTHERHAM United have recalled Richard Wood from his loan spell at Chesterfield  — and he could yet have a more lasting part to play at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Defender Harry Toffolo has gone down with a virus, prompting manager Neil Redfearn to bring Wood back ahead of tonight's match at Fulham.

The 30-year-old centre-half has not had a proper run in the team since previous manager Steve Evans brought him to the club 18 months ago and has also spent time on loan at Crawley and Fleetwood.

But Redfearn said he had intended to bring back the former Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry centre-half anyway.

The Millers chief told the Advertiser: "Richard only played for Chesterfield yesterday and it's a bit abrupt but we're down to 11 players and seven subs and we need the numbers.

"To be fair to the kid, he's champing at the bit to come back and do well. He's an experienced guy, he's not a big age in football terms and he's been at some good clubs.

"He is somebody that I haven't really had chance to have a good look at. He has been out and got some games and it will be good for me to see him at close quarters."

The central defender joined the Spireites in November and made seven appearances in all competitions, which included a start in Chesterfield's 1-1 draw with Coventry City yesterday.
