*That* strike didn't happen by accident.

ONE-TO-ONE tuition on the pitches at Roundwood led to Hakeem Odoffin’s late moment of magic at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The midfielder hit the match-clinching goal against Queens Park Rangers in the 91st minute last weekend, sending a sweetly-struck shot from outside the box speeding into the bottom corner of the North Stand net.

Matt Taylor revealed that the 24-year-old has been honing his technique at the club’s training HQ under the eagle eye of assistant boss Wayne Carlisle.

“Wayne has been working with Haks,” the manager said. “Haks can sometimes lean back and come away from the ball, which means a shot can go over or wide. He kept his head and body in the right position.”

Odoffin’s effort, which put the seal on a 3-1 Championship victory, was the pick of the Millers three strikes and met with Taylor’s approval.

“I love goals that go in low,” the boss said. “They’re the best ones, because you’re taking the crossbar and over the crossbar out of the equation.

“So many players aim for the top area of the net. Hard and low goes in!”

Taylor is a big admirer of Odoffin whose obvious joy as he was mobbed by teammates in stoppage time was one of the highlights of the afternoon.

“I was so pleased for Haks,” he said. “He’d come out of the team in the last couple of games but was ready to affect this one. You could see by his celebration how much he cares.

“I’ve spoken a lot about how well he conducts himself when he’s not in the side. That’s when you learn the most about a player.”
