ROTHERHAM United today made their first signing of the Matt Taylor era as centre-half Sean Morrison joined the club on a deal until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old spent eight and a half years with Cardiff City for whom he played in the Premier League.

His contract expired in the summer while he was recovering from a serious knee injury and the Bluebirds gave him a pay-as-you-play deal as they continued to help him with his rehabilition.

Club and player parted company five days ago, making him a free agent.

Morrison is the kind of proven Championship performer manager Taylor has talked about bringing to AESSEAL New York Stadium during the January transfer window as he looks to halt the Millers' slide towards the drop zone.

He is fit again but hasn't played since Febrary last year.

The six-foot-four-inch defender, who trained with his new teammates for the first time today, made nearly 300 appearances for Cardiff, scoring 33 goals, and was their captain for six seasons.

He is a big physical presence in both boxes and also has a long throw.

Born in Plymouth, he began his career with Swindon Town and has also played for Reading and Huddersfield Town.
