PAUL Warne is set to be announced as the new manager of Derby County.

The 49-year-old has taken charge of his last Rotherham United match and will be confirmed as the man the Rams have turned to in their bid to escape League One.

Warne leaves the Millers in eight place in the Championship after six eventful years in charge during which time he has three times led them out of the third tier and three times taken them back down.

The news will devastate Rotherham fans who were hoping the boss, in the last year of his contract at AESSEAL New York Stadium, would sign a new deal.

Liam Rosenior had been interim manager at Pride Park since the departure of Wayne Rooney in the summer but vacated the role earlier today as Derby moved to tie up Warne's switch.

The Millers will be in line to receive a compensation fee.

It is not yet known how many of his staff Warne will take with him.

Warne is due to fly to Portugal tomorrow with number two Richie Barker, coach Matt Hamshaw and the trio's wives for a three-day break.
