The 36-year-old was high on the Championship Millers' wanted list as they seek a replacement for Paul Warne and the U's boss confirmed discussions over a move to AESSEAL New York Stadium had taken place this week.

However, he said this morning he would continue to lead his present club's League One play-off push.

"I’m staying here, I’m not going anywhere, that’s the story,” he said.

“There’s nothing really for fans to worry about if they were. My job hasn’t changed. I’m really enjoying my time here. I think we’re midway through a bit of a project, and we’re not quite where we want to be yet."

Bonner grew up supporting Cambridge and has worked his way up from an academy coaching role to the top job at the Abbey Stadium.

He led the U's to promotion from League Two in his first season in charge and last term led them to a 12th-place finish in the third tier on one of the division's smallest budgets.
