WINGER Sullay Kaikai has flown to Spain to be part of Rotherham United's pre-season training camp in the hope of earning a contract with the Championship Millers.

The 27-year-old is a free agent after leaving MK Dons and will spend a week at the Pinatar Arena sports complex in Murcia trying to catch the eye of Millers manager Matt Taylor.

The club need to strengthen on the flanks following the departure of Chiedozie Ogbene to Luton Town and the end of Tariqe Fosu's loan.

"It's a chance for him to work with us and impress," the boss said. "We want more bodies in the wide areas and Sullay covers that so it made sense for him to come out here.

"We know he's a good player. He has a great opportunity ahead of him."

Kaikai came through the youth ranks at Crystal Place and made three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Eagles.

Following a series of loan spells, he joined Blackpool in 2019 and spent two seasons at Bloomfield Road. He then moved to Wycombe Wanderers for a year and half before a four-month, 14-match stint at MK last term.

Most of his 220-plus career appearances have come in League One, although he does have second-tier experience from a temporary spell with Brentford.

Meanwhile, the Millers have left some of their squad back at their Roundwood base so they can be treated for minor injuries.

"The three or four who have significant enough niggles to keep them out of training can get one-to-one work with the physio there," Taylor said.

"They will get a really good week's worth of work under their belts and will hopefully be back with the main group the following week.

"It's allowed us to bring some of the younger players out here."

Rotherham plan to play in two private friendlies, on Tuesday and Saturday, while they are away.
