Rotherham United Community Sports Trust launches new hub to boost interraction

A SPORTS trust has launched a new free social hub in a bid to build “positive social interaction and relationships” among older people.

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust’s new initiative, The Extra Time Hub, is mainly aimed at those in their semi-retirement or retirement.

It aims to offer the opportunity to meet others and find out more about services and support available.

Sessions will be held at The New York Stadium between 1.30pm and 3.30pm every Tuesday, with the chance for hot drink and a chat with the trust and an ambassador from one of several supporting organisations.

These include Rotherham U3A, Rotherham Hospice, Active Through Football, Mature Millers, Voluntary Action Rotherham, Rotherham Cancer Care, Rotherham Hospice, Rotherham and Barnsley Mind and Age UK Rotherham.

The sessions will coincide with the sports trust’s weekly Millers Dementia Café,

Colan Leung, health and wellbeing manager at RUCST, said: “We are delighted to announce the details of the Extra Time Hub and we are excited to bring the initiative to the people of Rotherham.

“We’re also honoured to have partnered with so many fantastic local organisations to deliver the programme as it means that our participants will be able to access information about services all in one place.

“We have partnered with a variety of organisations to ensure there’s something for everyone.

“We also believe the Extra Time Hub will promote positive social interaction and relationships, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the Rotherham community.”
