Neil Warnock's wife thanks Millers fans for support

THE wife of Rotherham United manager Neil Warnock has thanked fans for their support during her ongoing battle with breast cancer.

Sharon Warnock wrote an open letter to the “fabulous” Millers supporters — who raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK earlier this year.

The letter came after the United boss revealed it was Sharon who encouraged him to take on the Rotherham job in February, when the team were three points from Championship safety.

Since then the Millers have only lost three games and went 11 games unbeaten, helping them secure a third successive year in the second tier of English football.

In the letter, Mrs Warnock said: “This is a very belated thank you for all your lovely thoughts.

“I feel like I should be thanking you, the supporters and everyone at Rotherham United for giving our little family something else to focus on other than this hiccup in my life.

“Please understand my humour when I tell you that my husband’s only real talent lies in football management and I could count on one hand the amount of dinners he’s made in 26 years. “

Mrs Warnock said her husband’s time at Rotherham had reginited her love for football.

She added: “I sent him to you and look how well it has turned out.

“I have to admit to slightly falling out of love with football, the whole money obsessed players, inflated egos, the clipboard management.

“I loved the old school football, blood and guts, massive hearts, humour.”

Mum-of-two Mrs Warnock said she was “ridiculously proud” of her husband’s achievements at the New York Stadium.

She added: “Rotherham has given Neil a bunch of lads who have given him everything and then some.

“It was a perfect combination.

“Please thank everyone for all their generosity and support, you are a fabulous club and have played such a happy part in our life.

“You should all be very proud of yourselves.

“Enjoy your summer and hopefully I will get an opportunity to thank you in person next season.”

Millers fans now hope their relegation-defying gaffer will stay at the club beyond the end of his current contract, which expires this summer.
