ROTHERHAM United expressed their "disappointment" as Paul Warne and his coaching team today left the club to join Derby County.

The Advertiser revealed last night that the boss would be going to Pride Park and the Millers confirmed the move in a statement released this afternoon.

Warne is taking number two Richie Barker, coach Matt Hamshaw and goalkeeping coach Andy Warrington with him to Pride Park.

Rotherham said on their website: "The Millers received an approach from Derby to procure the 49-year-old and his staff’s services and were given permission to discuss terms.

"Whilst of course we are disappointed to see Paul and his staff depart, they do so with our very best wishes and thanks for their commitment to their roles here."

The switch brings to an end Warne's near-six-year reign at New York during which time he won three League One promotions and suffered three Championship relegations.

He had Rotherham flying high in the second tier this season and the Rams see him as the man to lead them back to the same level after they went down last term.

Warne, Barker and Hamshaw are on a three-day break together in Portugal and will begin their Derby duties on Monday.
