ROTHERHAM United are targeting six more new recruits before the close of the summer transfer window, manager Matt Taylor has revealed.

They are looking to bring in permanent additions and will also take advantage of the loan market to strengthen their squad for their forthcoming Championship campaign.

So far the Millers have brought in only one fresh face - goalkeeper Dillon Phillips - although they have also re-signed four of last season's defenders who had become free agents: Lee Peltier, Sean Morrison, Tyler Blackett and Grant Hall.

Taylor says the club are having to wait to land the men they want because they are chasing better-quality performers than previously after surviving in the second tier for the first time since 2016.

“We're looking at half a dozen more,” the boss said. “We are looking for a different level of player.

“There's a lot of free agents out there. A lot of the free agents we're talking to are coming down from a higher level. It might still be the Championship but, financially, they've been at a higher level.

“They can afford to wait a little bit longer to see what potential suitors are out there. We can only put our best offers in front of these targets and we'll continue to do that.

“We might have had more business done by now if we were bringing in players similar to what we already have in the building.”
