ROTHERHAM United are in no rush to decide on whether to offer a deal to the winger who has joined them on their week-long Spanish training camp for a trial.

Twenty-seven-year-old Sullay Kaikai is working out with the Championship Millers in Murcia and hoping to perform well enough to earn a contract at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The former Blackpool man took part in an in-house match on Tuesday and has another chance to stake his claim in this weekend's private friendly against Spanish side Elche.

"We're pretty relaxed about the time frame," manager Matt Taylor said. "We'll know more after the game Saturday. If we want to extend that training invite for a little bit longer than we probably can do."

London-born Kaikai came through the ranks at Crystal Place and had a number of loans before permanent moves to NAC Breda in Holland, Blackpool, Wycombe Wanderers and MK Dons.

He has spent most of 228-game career in League One and is a free agent after parting company with the Dons at the end of last season

"He's a good lad, he's positive and he's impressed us so far," Taylor said. "We know he has got some suitors elsewhere at different levels. As far as I know, we would be his best option if we were to offer him something."

During his time with Palace, for whom he made three Premier League substitute appearances, Kaikai had loans at Cambridge United, Shrewsbury Town, Brentford and Charlton Athletic.

He made 18 appearances in the second tier with the Bees.

His best form came in a two-year spell with Blackpool between 2019 and 2021. Then, a year and a half at Wycombe preceded a four-month, 14-match stint with MK.

"He's a player looking for rhythm and another home, somewhere where he can find a little bit of consistency," Taylor said.
