ROTHERHAM United today made their seventh signing of the summer as Premier League youngster Dexter Lembikisa joined them on loan for the forthcoming Championship campaign.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers teenager trained with his new teammates for the first time this morning and is set to make his Millers bow in Saturday's friendly at League One Lincoln City.

Manager Matt Taylor described the 19-year-old, who can play as a full-back or wing-back on either flank, as a player with a real competitive edge.

The Bristol-born right-footer has returned from CONCACAF Gold Cup duty with Jamaica in North America and Canada and is fully match-fit.

"He has a great physical profile and he's got some bite in his game, some snap," Taylor said. "It's good that he can play on both sides of the pitch. He'll provide competition and cover."

The deal was agreed last week but wasn't finalised until Lembikisa completed his international commitments and returned to England to be assessed by his parent club.

Taylor is excited by the arrival of a talented reinforcement but warned against expecting too much too soon from a prospect who has featured only once in the top flight and three times in cup competitions for Wolves' senior side.

"He's young and we know what happens to young players when they play Championship football for the first time," the boss said. "It's a hell of an experience for them."

"He's had competitive game-time recently and hopefully he'll get some more at the weekend."

Lembikisa, who has been with Wolves since he was 13, is Rotherham's first recruit for nearly three weeks and follows the capture of midfielder Cafu and goalkeeper Dillon Phillips.

In addition, four of last season's second-tier survival squad who had become free agents - Lee Peltier, Grant Hall, Sean Morrison and Tyler Blackett - have all signed new deals.

The Millers are in talks with forward Andre Green who scored in both of his two matches during his trial spell that ended with Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Sheffield United.
