ROTHERHAM United have a number of players approaching full fitness as they begin the countdown to August 5 Championship opening day at Stoke City.

Striker Josh Kayode, midfielder Jamie Lindsay, winger Shane Ferguson and centre-forward Tom Eaves have been sidelined for varying lengths of time and all are nearing comebacks.

Kayode is finally available after a year lost to a knee injury and quad surgery and could feature at Lincoln City in the final public outing of pre-season at Lincoln City on Saturday.

Lindsay has missed the last three friendlies with an achilles complaint, winger Shane Ferguson has spent the summer recovering from a groin op and centre-forward Tom Eaves has been nursing a calf problem since reporting back from the off-season break.

"Jamie's issue has really settled down and Shane is getting closer and closer," manager Matt Taylor said. “Tom is back out on the grass so that is a real plus. All four players have got a chance for the start of the season; in what capacity I don't know yet."

Defenders Lee Peltier and Sean Morrison missed Tuesday' night's win over Sheffield United but had trained during the day and have clean bills of health.

The Millers have a private friendly planned for next Tuesday at their Roundwood training base against League Two Bradford City.
