Fitness update on Rotherham United duo Peter Kioso and Tolaji Bola

PETER Kioso may be back in the first-team frame for Rotherham United this Saturday ... but manager Matt Taylor isn’t counting on it.

The wing-back is training again after his comeback from a long-term groin issue a fortnight ago was ruined when he picked up an ankle injury in a reserve outing.

However, Taylor suspects the 23-year-old may run out of time as he bids to be fit for Saturday’s Championship trek to Cardiff City.

“We hope he will be available in some capacity, although it might just be too soon,” the boss said early this week.

“He’s done very little work with the main group. He’s been back with the strength-and-conditioning staff and the physios trying to get back up to speed. He’s not doing opposed small-sided games or possession work. He’s doing unopposed passing-and-receiving sessions.”

Summer signing Kioso was making only his second appearance for the Millers when he suffered groin damage in an August League Cup tie at Port Vale that sidelined him for two months.

His latest problem came when he played for the first half in the second string’s 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town and an early heavy challenge led to his ankle swelling up.

“That was a blow on top of the initial (groin) blow,” Taylor said. “We would have been expecting him to be playing his part by now.”

Tolaji Bola’s return to training after a quad complaint has gone well but the wing-back isn’t in contention for a squad place against the Bluebirds.

“He needs another week under his belt,” Taylor said.
