DEADLINE DAY: Millers lead way for Madine

ROTHERHAM United could be about to land their first transfer deadline day signing.

The Advertiser understands controversial former Sheffield Wednesday front man Gary Madine (26) is believed to be on his way to Rotherham - according to sources in the north west.

His current club - League One Bolton Wanderers - are eager to free space in their squad for a potential incoming.

Madine has netted nine goals in 41 appearances since joining Bolton, while he helped fire the Owls to League One promotion in 2012.

In 2013 Madine served five months of an 18 month jail sentence after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm.

It is also believed that Millers' versatile defender Tom Thorpe could be set to move to the Macron as part of the deal to bring Madine to the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Thorpe (23) worked with Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson during a loan spell at Bradford last season.
