The 31-year-old has dropped down a division to League One to sign a two-year deal with the Rams.

His move to Pride Park for an undisclosed fee follows the switch of goalkeeper Josh Vickers last month.

Vickers was at the end of his contract and had become a free agent but Washington still had a year left at AESSEAL New York Stadium following his arrival there 12 months ago.

The former Charlton Athletic, Queens Park Rangers and Peterborough United man scored six times in 39 appearances as Rotherham sealed their second-tier safety last term.

He missed the run-in because of knee surgery and has yet to return to full fitness. That didn't deter Derby who has been keen on landing the player for weeks.

Warne was the boss who brought Washington to S60 before taking the Derby job in September.

The Millers said on their website this evening: "Conor leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club."
