The Millers are paying a fee to sign the midfield man.

ROTHERHAM United are on the brink of announcing that Christ Tiehi has completed his long-awaited move to AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The Millers agreed a deal with Czech Republic side Slovan Libererc for the French-born midfielder several weeks ago but have had to liaise with the Home Office on obtaining a work permit.

That hurdle is believed to have been cleared and the 25-year-old should be unveiled as a new signing in a matter of days.

"I expect a positive announcement at some stage next week," manager Matt Taylor told the Advertiser after yesterday's 2-2 home Championship draw with Blackburn Rovers.

The Millers are paying a significant fee for the Ivory Coast youth international who required a work permit because he doesn't hold a British passport.

He has been in Rotherham since last month and has attended games while the red tape was being sorted.

The player, who impressed on loan with Wigan Athletic last season, had a year left on his Liberec contract.

There is the possibility of a second arrival before the injury-hit Millers head to Sunderland next Saturday.

They have made loan offers for players and are hoping to add to their squad depth shortly.

"It's there for everyone to see: we're limited at the moment in terms of what we can achieve by a lack of numbers," Taylor said.

Strikers Andre Green and Tom Eaves, right-back Lee Peltier, winger Shane Ferguson and midfielder Jamie Lindsay all sat out the Blackburn match.
