ROTHERHAM United appear to be inching towards an eventual announcement that Christ Tiehi is moving to AESSEAL New York Stadium on a permanent transfer.

The midfielder was on loan at Wigan Athletic in the Championship last season but his parent club are Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic.

That means more red tape than usual is involved in the transfer as the French-born 25-year-old will need a work permit to play again in England.

Manager Matt Taylor reluctantly had to choose his words carefully after this afternoon's 4-2 win in a pre-season friendly for the second-tier Millers against League Two Mansfield Town.

"Unfortunately, I can't say anything," he told the Advertiser. "It's the most difficult, complicated situation I've ever been involved in."

However, he did reveal that a player who was due to complete a move had been with the Rotherham party at the One Call Stadium.

That points towards Tiehi who was spotted at New York during last Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough and was also seen on the touchline this afternoon.

Before he was asked about the Frenchman specifically, Taylor said. "We've got a player watching us today who is due to sign with us, so that's another one over the line."

So far this summer the Millers have made six signings and they acknowledge that they need more with August 5 opening day fast approaching.

A loan deal is also in the pipeline, the boss said.

Tiehi, who began his career with Le Havre in France, has a year left on his Liberec contract. He impressed when he played for Wigan against Rotherham on the final day of last season in a 0-0 draw at the DW Stadium.

There is no definite time frame on the deal being completed but it could be a drawn-out process.
